WEEKLY MUST-HAVE: Anastasia's Lash Lifting Mascara
Anastasia may be known for her brow shaping skills (just ask Oprah), but watch out beauty industry because she is making lashes her new signature. Anastasia's Lash Lifting Mascara is a delicious treat for fine, thin, lifeless lashes. Kim Kardashian's even a fan, gushing on her blog, "I swear, I literally need one coat (of the Lash Lifting Mascara) and my eyelashes have so much volume and curl. Usually I feel like I have to keep applying coats to build up volume, but this mascara is perfect!!!"

While I'm a fan of practically every Anastasia product (the highlighter in Camille and brow wax stick are must-have eyebrow grooming items), nothing comes close to a holy grail mascara. A good mascara is like discovering an Hermes cuff in the backseat of a taxi cab (true story, happened to a friend of mine). And I try tons of mascaras. But there's just something special about this one. That's why I'm all smiles today. One coat is all you need, no feathering, no clumping and no fuss. I'm addicted. My only grievance: the wand. While it may not be plastic, a personal favorite of mine, here's to wishful thinking that the next batch of Anastasia mascaras will have rubbered bristles.

CULT MOVIE REVIEW: Escape from the Planet of the Apes (1971)

"Time can only be fully understood by an observer with a god-like gift of infinite regression."

- Dr. Otto Hasslein (Eric Braeden) discusses the dark, turbulent corridors of time in Escape from the Planet of the Apes.

One of the finest and best-written horror blogs haunting cyberspace in 2010 is Kindertrauma, a site dedicated to the film and TV productions that scared (and scarred...) us all as children.

In the spirit of that blog's dedicated mission statement, I've been thinking much lately about a disco-decade era movie that disturbed me tremendously as a kid. It's not exactly a traditional pick, I grant you. I certainly wouldn't classify it as horror, per se. But it was...horrific. And it certainly rattled my young mind.

The year was 1976 when I first viewed Escape from the Planet of the Apes on ABC Channel 7's 4:30 Movie (during Planet of the Apes week). I was six or seven years old at the time. I was in kindergarten, if I'm remembering it right. The movie itself concerned three ape-o-nauts hurled back from the future of 3955 AD (the era of the Earth's destruction in Beneath The Planet of the Apes [1969] to 1973; to now, essentially.

But Escape from the Planet of the Apes blazing, go-for-broke valedictory images -- especially following the film's easy-going, fish-out-of-water humor -- proved utterly traumatizing to me.

Specifically, at the film's climax, the audience is exposed to a number of really disturbing images. Kindly ape-o-naut doctor, Zira (Kim Hunter) is shot in the back several times while running away from her assailant.

A villainous scientist, Otto Hasslein (Eric Braeden) empties his gun into the body of Zira's baby (presumably), and we see the bullet-ridden, bloody blanket in close-up.

Then, Cornelius (Roddy McDowall), Zira's husband -- standing atop a high deck on a rusty ship -- kills Hasslein and we see the blood erupt out of his chest as a bullet strikes.

Next, a police sniper shoots Cornelius, and we watch in agonizing close-up as this beloved character, this pacifist chimpanzee, gasps repeatedly for air, plummets from his perch, and smashes hard onto the deck below. He lands with an unforgettable thud.

The most disturbing portion of this death scene is the close-up: Cornelius's lungs have been punctured apparently, and we see him register, shock, confusion and pain as the terminal nature of his wounds take effect, and he struggles for more air.

Finally, the bloodied Zira -- after dumping her baby's corpse into polluted-looking water -- crawls desperately to her husband's side and quietly dies beside him. Then there's a dramatic pull-back -- the cinematic equivalent of a "Holy Shit" -- as the camera retracts in horror from this orgy of violence perpetrated against, unarguably, the franchise's most beloved and likable characters.

And yes, this move is Rated G. For "General Audiences." Take the kiddies...

I've never forgotten this brutal climax to Don Taylor's third entry in the POTA franchise, and it's probably the reason I don't watch this film as often as I do the original 1968 film, or Conquest of the Planet of the Apes. Cornelius and Zira are such kind, innocent, loving beings and throughout the film, they literally wear their hearts on their sleeves. This quality of sincerity makes them very open with strangers ("I like you," Zira tells one of their captors, the kindly Dr. Lewis [Bradford Dillman]). Yet it also makes them impulsive.

This quality of total honesty and openness means Zira doesn't know any better than to tell her human captors EVERYTHING about her work in the distant future, including her experimentation on dumb and mute humans. And Cornelius also reacts impulsively (but protectively) when Zira -- following a torture session by Hasslein -- is insulted by an orderly. Cornelius kills the boy in an instant of fleeting rage. Considering all of this now, I still can't believe how unremittingly, how authentically dark Escape from the Planet of the Apes remains.

What I hadn't taken full notice of, perhaps, in my previous viewing of the film, is just how skilled and yes, how artistic, the film remains, in the support of such a rather bleak story. I had always boasted an unspoken bias against Escape since it is the only Planet of the Apes entry set in "our time," meaning no need for much by way of special effects, make-up or futuristic production design. The film also features less action than both of its silver screen predecessors. Having seen the film for so many years on television (in Pan-and-Scan), and not the more impressive wide-screen version, I had often considered the film ugly-looking, especially in respect to the other impressive films in the franchise.

Now, however, I see it a little differently. Don Taylor makes great use of the rectangular frame in Escape from the Planet of the Apes, forging a number of remarkable compositions in the process. One of the finest examples of his work opens the film. We start with a landscape view of a timeless ocean, bracketed on the left by a jagged mountain. This image plainly recalls the post-apocalyptic Forbidden Zone, rocky shore-line and Statue of Liberty-ending of Planet of the Apes. But before we can contemplate this particular (and familiar...) vision for too long, a contemporary helicopter unexpectedly juts into frame from the left, making audiences aware that we have returned to our Earth of the present. This is a great tie-in to the previous films; one of great visual consistency for the series. It's exactly the opening shot we would expect of a Planet of the Apes sequel...but with a twist.

In terms of visualizations, Taylor's direction also makes a case for our eyes that the human world (soon to die in a nuclear conflagration...) is already half-dead. The Apes from the future are welcomed to this world as heroes and celebrities, but soon are tortured and mistreated by agents of the U.S. military-industrial complex. Accordingly, Zira and Cornelius go from luxurious hotel rooms to utilitarian military bases, finally to a forgotten, rusted ship-yard that represents the wasteful, ruined, industrial infrastructure of a bloated human society living on borrowed time. Zira attempts to nurse her baby inside an abandoned ship there, and the vessel is a total wreckage. So what we get is an odd visual conjunction of birth and dying in the same frame.

In terms of visuals, Taylor also evidences a preference for images which note the apes' entrapment and ultimate doom here in our 20th century culture.

A preponderance of shots reveal the endangered apes through bars, window frames, door-frames or other enclosures that suggest, at least implicitly, their snare. Even the film's final shot adopts this stance; an appropriate touch since it occurs at the prehistory of ape enslavement in human culture. I should add, the shot also adopts the high-angle perspective frequently and in film grammar, that is also a signifier of doom.

Thematically, I also appreciate the way that Escape from the Planet of the Apes is structured as a mirror-image of the original, only flipping the ape/human dynamics. Three astronauts travel through time in both stories. Kindly "animal" psychologists tend to the astronauts in both stories -- in direct contradiction to the rules of the prevailing, cruel society -- and there are also early casualties amongst the space travelers in both Escape and Planet. In Escape's presidential commission or "panel of inquiry," there's even a resonance of Ape's famous "See/Speak/Hear No Evil" Tribunal.

What's even more genuinely commendable about Escape from the Planet of the Apes is the film's central theological and philosophical argument. To wit, Hasslein discusses the nature of time...and destiny. "Time is like a freeway, a freeway with an infinite number of lanes. All leading from the past into the future. However not the same future." He tells us. "It follows that a driver -- by changing lanes -- can change his future."

But then in a conversation with the President of the United States (William Windom in a terrific, ultra-slick performance), Hasslein admits that he wonders about his next course of action. Apes will take over the world if Zira and Cornelius are allowed to raise their baby. Hasslein thus wants to sterilize the parents and abort the baby. But -- as he aptly puts it -- "which future has God -- if there is a God -- chosen for our future?" In killing the Talking Apes, is Hasslein an instrument of God's plan, or an enemy of God's plan?

The President brings up the famous Hitler time-travel conundrum in response. Would we kill Hitler in the womb, knowing what we know of the man and his war crimes? Would he kill his remote ancestors? The President's answer is one of political buck-passing. When told that talking apes will dominate Earth's future, he notes sardonically, "I doubt that we shall still be in office by then."

This thematic conceit sees a deliberate reflection in a character introduced in the final act, the circus owner Armando (Ricardo Montalban). Armando states that he despises those who try to intervene in destiny, and act against God's plan. And furthermore, that if it is man's fate to be dominated by intelligent apes, then he hopes those apes are as kind as Zira and Cornelius. Essentially, we have two opposing points of view here: pre-determinism (Armando) vs. free will (Hasslein). Or to put it another way, Hasslein desires to "change lanes" in order avoid a terrible future for human beings. Armando prefers to believe that we're not even driving the car. That God has us on cruise control of sorts. Changing lanes is futile, if it isn't in God's scheme.

Interestingly, the very words of Zira and Cornelius, regarding "future" ape history, inform us a bit more about the shape of this argument. The two kindly chimps insist that, according to their Sacred Scrolls, pet apes went from doing tricks to performing services in two centuries. And that they turned the tables on their human oppressors in another three centuries. In other words, in the world that Zira and Cornelius arise from (and which Taylor visited) it takes 500 years for harried apes to develop the power of speech and become conscious to the philosophical concepts of slavery and freedom, unity and corporate action. This long period of "dawning realization" may occur because there is no real intelligent leader of the movement. Insurrection, revolution and a new order must arise through the crucible of experience; through evolution. Through generations of slavery.

But by "changing lanes," by traveling back in time, Zira and Cornelius have altered destiny (and their own history). Now, their child -- an intelligent ape -- will bring about the same pro-ape revolution in decades, not centuries. So the future has indeed been changed. It has been hastened.

But the irony of this is Hasslein's role. He acts to kill the baby of the taking apes, and the world believes he has succeeded in his quest. Thus the hunt for Zira and Cornelius's child ends permanently...at least until a paranoid governor named Breck picks it up twenty years later...when it is too late. By acting to destroy the threat now, by believing he can "change lanes," Hasslein has also hastened the very future he hoped to avoid (the pre-determined future?). The apes will take over his world; and they will do it much sooner than they would have without his witch-hunt. Perhaps God has played a trick on the vain scientist. The outcome was never in doubt; only the scheduling of it.

Critics are always quick to point out the pointed social commentary in Escape from the Planet of the Apes, and indeed, there's much there. Zira gives a bra-burning speech to a Bay Area Women's Club, striking a feminist chord right at the time that second-wave feminism was really entering the American bloodstream. "The marriage bed is made for two," she declares to rousing applause, "But every damn morning it's the woman who has to make it."

Similarly, Cornelius attends a boxing prize fight, and is horrified by the overt brutality of the event. By contrast, the humans don't seem to be horrified by this violence in the slightest. They cheer as the fighters pummel one another. Oppoistely, the humans do take great exception to the violence Zira inflicts on human experimental subjects...in the year 3955 AD. The same humans who decry Zira's lab experiments in the distant future are also the first to decide on her draconian personal disposition: sterilization after a state-enforced abortion. Given this scenario, Escape from the Planet of the Apes involves human hypocrisy. Or as Zira notes. "We've met hundreds of humans since we've been here. And I trust three."

There's also some underlying commentary in Escape from the Planet of the Apes about the American media and pop culture, and how it is so damn fickle. At first, Cornelius and Zira capture the hearts of "the voters" (as the President states). For a while, they are the toast of the town. Why, they even go to Disneyland to dedicate a "new boat " in the "jungle cruise."

Within a few weeks, however, the apes are spirited to an undisclosed location, and eventually murdered. The culture that worshipped them has apparently forgotten about them; moved on to different bread and circuses, apparently. The message: souls as honest and gentle as Zira and Cornelius get snuffed out in this media "circus" (as opposed to Armando's more compassionate circus, a place of sanctuary).

Ultimately, Escape from the Planet of the Apes is a bridge between the first two films in the series and the last two. It is the only one not set in the future. It is also the movie, in a sense, that makes the entire Planet of the Apes series possible, since it "resurrects" characters from a destroyed Earth of the future and delivers them (and young Caesar...) into the 20th century timeline where the ascent of the Apes will soon occur. For all these reasons, Escape from the Planet of the Apes is a strong entry -- and a necessary one -- in the five-strong franchise. But more than that, it's a pretty damn fine film in its own right.

And I still find it intensely traumatizing. Cornelius and Zira are golden hearts, to steal a descriptor from Lars von Trier. We have witnessed their decency and humanity in Planet of the Apes, Beneath the Planet of the Apes, and here in their last film too. To kill off such sweet, beloved characters in such brutal, unblinking fashion is almost sadistic. But the point about the cruelty of the current human culture is made.

In truth, the enduring power of Escape from the Planet of the Apes probably arises from the vivid, unforgettable, bloody ending that spawns nightmares in the young. This is a Fin de siècle film. The human world is ending; a rusted, industrial nightmare of decay and bloat, and soon to take even further hits (the death of pets by space plague is just ten years off in this time-line, for instnace).

Even the film's final image is haunting, bizarre and a little surreal. A baby ape -- the real child of Zira and Cornelius -- is behind bars at Armando's circus. Shouting plaintively. Calling for "Mama." (And voiced by the late, great Walker Edmiston).

A sad baby searching for his murdered Mama? Not exactly a barrel full of monkeys.

In the new rock biopic, The Runaways, a glum Kristen Stewart sits poolside, suckling vodka from a water pistol before pushing it suggestively down the front of her stomach. In a separate scene, she coaches a bathing teenage band mate on how to get wet using a mental image of Farrah Fawcett and a shower head. And then there’s co-star Dakota Fanning, better known as Hollywood’s 15-year-old precocious precious, who hoovers enough blow on an airplane to soar with Kenny Powers. Actor Michael Shannon plays Fowley with a commitment and intensity welcome and familiar to any viewer who saw his performance in the new Southern indie classic Shotgun Stories or as the best part of Revolutionary Road (which earned him an Oscar nom for Best Supporting Actor). In recent days, Fowley has come out in support of Shannon’s performance, calling him the Christopher Walken of a generation. Given Shannon’s unflattering if amusing portrayal of the guy as an id swimming in midnight oil and the naivety of young girls, the endorsement is mildly surprising. But the comparison is astute. After interviewing the actor this week in a hotel in NYC, I couldn’t shake similar comparisons with the cornhusk steeliness and alertness of a 30something David Letterman and the seen-a-lot-of-shit-ness of Ray Liotta. In our below interview, Shannon discussed the contradictions of Fowley, HBO’s forthcoming Martin Scorsese series Boardwalk Empire, and the time he hid in a doghouse.

Hunter Stephenson: It’s cool to talk with you. Shotgun Stories was one of my favorites for 2008.

Michael Shannon: Man, thanks. I’m glad you liked it. I might make another film with [writer/director Jeff Nichols] this summer. You know his film, Goat, it’s been in a standstill for a while. There was was a lot of motion on it at one point and then it just slowed, so we’re both suddenly more interested in this project called Shelter. And Jeff’s also developing a show for HBO right now, I think…

And you’re in a show for HBO, Boardwalk Empire. I actually watched the trailer today, it just hit, and the production values look top shelf…

Michael Shannon: Yeah? So it looks good? That’s the thing about the pilot because we had Scorsese there [directing], so he’s going to make sure everything looks wicked. And it did. I mean, it looked wicked when I was sitting on the set watching it happen, so I can imagine the trailer. The production budget was really high, so I think HBO really believes in it. They’ve already spent a lot of money.

Several of the characters you have played recently have a chaotic center or border on crazy. Kim Fowley falls in line with that. Is there anything in your formative years—or in your current worldview— to explain the appeal of these characters for you as an actor?

Michael Shannon: Well, I certainly think the world is chaotic. I mean, to me the essence of drama is conflict, right? Drama is people dealing with extreme experiences and situations. I guess I’ve seen movies recently where characters are less “stressed out” than the ones I have played, but it’s not like I don’t enjoy those movies. But personally I wouldn’t know how to—in order for me to invest in a character, I need to know what’s troubling him. That’s the first thing I think about when I read a script: what’s bothering this person? Internally and across the board. What do they have to overcome? I mean, you brought up Shotgun Stories, my character, Son, appealed to me because he was very mild mannered but the situation he’s trying to overcome—he’s trying to take care of his brother and his family and be a good person. But there’s a huge conflict. The title to that movie is very interesting. I know that Jeff was worried that it was giving too much away.

And of course, it’s also a matter of the opportunities I’m presented with. It’s not like I’m sent every script in Hollywood. [laughs] Runaways came to me because I bear a bit of a resemblance to Kim Fowley, and they probably could have gotten an actor who was more famous or of a higher profile, but it wouldn’t have matched up.

The film opens with a shot of period blood on the ground. How did you interpret that when you first saw the film?

Michael Shannon: It represents the huge transition that all women go through. I mean, I have a daughter now, so when I see that scene I hope that one day that’s going to be my daughter. I hope that one day my daughter is going to look down and see red, and she’s going to start becoming a woman. I just can’t imagine how frightening that must be. I mean, the only thing I can equate to that growing up as a boy was the first time you have to change your clothes in a gym room. It doesn’t compare. It’s like in life, no matter what the man has to go through, what the woman goes through seems more difficult. And the opening is not only a sign of Cherie Currie [Dakokta Fanning] growing up, but she had a really tough childhood as the film shows—it sort of represents what she would later have to endure to be a part of the band.

I read that you studied Kim Fowley by watching an interview he did from the ’70s with the great Tom Snyder. That was the first time I remember seeing him as well. [Ed. Note: The interview is included on this DVD set. I've posted the YouTube version below, good stuff.] You know, watching it, can you elaborate on what drew you in? Fowley makes such an impression…

Michael Shannon: I could definitely gain just from the interview that he was wicked smart. I mean, here’s a guy who—I would’ve been very nervous in his situation—he’s clearly on enemy territory. Tom Snyder, at the beginning of the interview, he seems to have made up his mind that punk rock is a mess and isn’t going to go very far with the public. He’s looking down his nose at it a little bit and taking shots. And I’m sure Kim was nervous underneath, but he was so able to take the blows and come back with his own venom—and his own sparring. He cracked me up. Everything he said made me laugh. And his body is so interesting in that interview, the way he moves and expresses himself physically…

Michael Shannon: Yeah. It’s weird. The whole time you’re trying to figure out: is he effeminate or is he not effeminate? And of course, underneath it all, he’s not effeminate at all. He’s totally a man and he’s very much into spending lots of time with the ladies, and what not. Not that it matters one way or the other, but it’s that contradiction that makes him interesting. I mean, that was one of the great things about the Glam Era; everyone thought these guys looked so poofy, but underneath they were as red blooded as any other tough guy.

How does Fowley compare in your opinion to other wild rock and punk producers like Phil Spector and Malcolm McLaren?

Michael Shannon: You know, there are definitely some similarities. I am always shocked by how long Kim has been around—how many different artists he’s worked with and so many different kinds of sounds he helped develop and participated in. How much he’s done. Even the music he has personally performed and sings, so much variety there. You know, I associate Phil Spector with the Wall of Sound, I associate Malcolm McLaren with The Sex Pistols, very specific moments in music. When you say, “Kim Fowley,” I mean The Runaways are definitely a component of him but it’s not the only thing. Forty years of creativity. His whole involvement with The Runaways was very brief—like in the movie, he says “The Runaways were ‘a concept.’” He would be the first one to tell you how smart he is, he claims to have an IQ over 160, and that could very well be true from what I have seen and from [hanging out] with him. He gets bored very easily, so he has to keep creating and changing.

Watching the film, I wondered what its release will mean to modern youth culture. Newer rock music has become really stagnant, I don’t know if you’d agree, but it doesn’t attack the way it used to. And if you agree, why is that? Is it because rock originally stressed the individual, and now, in the Digital Age, it’s like throwing a voice down a river? There are less obvious targets for the same reason, maybe.

Michael Shannon: That’s a good question. There are a couple of moments in the film where, if you pinch yourself and think about what’s happening, it’s a little disturbing. It’s like you say, so many people now are always on computers, and I really miss the days where you would have to go out and buy an album and have the cover art. And you listened to it from beginning to end. Now it’s a constant shuffle. People listen to Stevie Wonder or Ray Charles one minute, and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah! or whatever the next minute. Totally arbitrary and, you know, it seems like music is becoming something to help people deal with their ride on the subway. A lot of the stuff I hear now, people use it just to pass time. I think music used to be a lot more than that. Rock music used to be a mission, and these girls were on a mission. There is interesting rock music now, don’t get me wrong, but a lot of it doesn’t have the passion or the urgency. So, this movie is not going to start a revolution or anything. You have to contextualize it. It’s a snap shot of a very particular time.

In the film, Kim puts The Runaways through rock boot camp by having kids throw cans and actual shit at them. In your younger days, did you ever whip a bottle at a band at a concert?

Michael Shannon:The story that comes to mind has absolutely nothing to do with music, and it’s from when I was very young. I was about seven or eight, and in the backyard—across the back fence of our yard there was another yard and a house and a little girl lived there. And I went over to the fence and she called me a name, she called me a dog, and she was throwing dog food at me. And I guess it really hurt my feelings. [laughs] So, I reached down and picked up, like, this half of a brick and threw it over the fence at her. [laughs] And it hit her. It hit her in the head. And she started bleeding. And I lost it. I really thought I was going to die. And we had a huge Irish wolf-hound at the time, he lived in this huge doghouse…

What was the dog’s name?

Michael Shannon: Mack, Mack-dog. And I was literally in the doghouse, and I hid there for so long. The dog was in the house. And finally, my mom came outside and said, “Michael? I know you’re in there.” Thank god that little girl was okay. It was a very strange thing.

I can’t interview you and not ask about Bug. The film [adaptation] is really great and so claustrophobic, but I never saw you perform it originally for the stage. Would you consider revisiting the play? And did the play ever draw paranoiacs or did you ever receive strange fan mail?

Michael Shannon: No, by and large, all of the fans of Bug I have encountered for the play and the film have been pretty straight up, just normal people. I think people who were truly paranoid couldn’t watch it, or maybe would be afraid to see it. Or maybe it wouldn’t live up to their own hallucinations. I don’t know. I made a conscious choice once I did the movie—I had performed Bug over 200 times on stage; I did it in London, I did it in Chicago, and I did it here in New York. And there was actually a production going on in L.A. and they called me, and I said no, I said I was all Petered Evans’d out. It was a tough role, because when I was doing the play version, we would do it eight times a week, sometimes twice a day. I love that character to death, but man, it was intense.

Kelly Cutrone takes over Toronto

If you follow Toronto media types on Twitter, you must be well aware by now that Kelly Cutrone has been in the city the past couple days, promoting her bestselling book If You Have to Cry, Go Outside.

I was invited to MTV Canada yesterday to watch the People's Revolution founder shoot a special episode of the After Show which will air in April.

Without ruining any of the fun, I can tell you Kelly critiques the fashion choices of some young interns, takes on her own critics, and plays a rousing game of Two Minutes to Win It (think Taboo).

While her reputation may suggest otherwise, Cutrone was nothing to fear. In fact, I found myself wanting her to turn up the bitch a little bit. But I guess you don't really do that when you're out promoting yourself.

Really though, Kelly was a delight to watch, and seemed to be having a great time in Toronto, praising her Canadian fans. (Follow her on Twitter to know where she is at any given moment).

I'm also now pretty convinced I should buy her book. Clearly she's a pro at that PR thing.

ESPN have got a habit of banning employees, and Tony Kornheiser is the latest one to get the ESPN wrath after comments he made about SportCenter anchor Hannah Storm’s outfit.

On his weekday local radio show on ESPN Radio's Washington, D.C. affiliate, Kornheiser Friday talked about what Storm was wearing on-air at the time.

He called her outfit "horrifying" and said her "very, very tight shirt" looked like "sausage casing" and that her "Catholic school plaid skirt" was "way too short for somebody" her age.

However,The Pardon the Interuption host then have realised that he done wrong, and when he appeared on his radio show the next day, he apologised for being a “sarcastic, subversive guy” and called himself a “troll.” He ends the sentence by saying that he has no right to insult what anyone looks like, or what they wear.

ESPN obviously didn’t think the apology was good enough, and still suspended Kornheiser for a few days.

They became friends and one day Javier saw her dancing but it was a different kind of dancing to his and he invited her to a Havana nightclub so she goes with this guy James Phelps and he got really jelouse when he saw Katey dancing with Javier and with how close they were dancing and when they got into his car to go back home he tried it on with her and he ripped the strap on her dress in the process.

She got out of the car and ran back to the club and Javier saw her dress and got really angry that he was going to go and looking for him but Katey stopped him so Javier said he would walk her home but they didn't know that Katey's little sister Susie and her friend seen them and Susie's friend went and told Javier's boss and he got fired for interacting with the guests Katey felt really bad for what happened and felt responsible for it.

She went to see Javier and asked him to enter the Latin Ballroom contest with her so that they could raise money so that Javier and his family could leave Cuba so he agreed and when they are practising all there dance moves they fall in love and Katey and all the Americans were getting kicked out of Cuba so they had one last night at the Havana nightclub with there families before Katey had to leave.

A FAMU sex tape video is turning into a lot of negative publicity for FAMU. But does the FAMU sex tape video actually exist, or is this something being set up to put negative light on the Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University?

FAMU students have been sounding off on Twitter today over the FAMU sex tape link. Most of the students are saying that the dorm in the video is not on Florida A&M’s campus.

The site that released the FAMU sex tape makes money by selling sex videos that have supposedly been filmed on various campuses throughout the US. It is likely that this site has misrepresented both the place and the people.

It is a strange world that we live in now, where people are reportedly creating tapes like this in order to make money on the internet. Hopefully FAMU takes some action against that web site for claiming that the tape was actually filmed on the FAMU campus, because if it wasn't, this is a whole lot of negative publicity that FAMU will be wrongly receiving.

FAMU officials have not made a statement about the FAMU sex tap.

I love services I can interact with via email. I can post to my Facebook page via email and I can do the same here. One of my favorite services is Instapaper. I use it to bookmark and save articles to read later, which I often do in bulk on long plane rides.

Earlier this week it quietly added a killer new feature. You can now email in URLs or newsletters and it will save them to your Instapaper account for perusal later. I find this invaluable.

Kudos to Marco Arment for continuing to build out a killer product. This is by far the most valuable service I have added to my arsenal over the last year or so. And it continues to get better. You can get the details here at the bottom of the page.

EARTH HOUR merupakan kampanye perubahan iklim global WWF. Individu, pelaku bisnis, pemerintah dari berbagai negara di semua belahan dunia akan mematikan lampu selama satu jam sebagai pernyataan dukungan upaya penanggulangan perubahan iklim pada Sabtu, 28 Maret pukul 20.30 - 21.30 (waktu setempat).

Earth Hour dimulai di Sydney pada 2007, ketika 2,2 juta rumah dan pelaku bisnis mematikan lampu selama satu jam. Pada 2008, pesannya telah berkembang menjadi gerakan global yang berkesinambungan, dengan 50 juta orang mematikan lampu mereka, begitupula dengan bangunan-bangunan terkenal di dunia seperti Jembatan Golden Gate di San Francisco, Colosseum di Roma, Opera House di Sydney dan billboard Coca Cola di Times Square.

Despite a fun viral promotion from the Web site www.wonder-who.com, Megan Fox has no plans to play Wonder Woman. She told the Times Online she has no interest in portraying DC Comics’ premiere superheroine.

“Wonder Woman is a lame superhero,” she said. “She flies around in her invisible jet and her weaponry is a lasso that makes you tell the truth. I just don’t get it. Somebody has a big challenge on their hands whoever takes that role but I don’t want to do it.”

Once Warner Bros. and Joss Whedon parted company on the “Wonder Woman” film, in development since 2005, I lost much hope of ever seeing it brought to the screen as anything I wanted to see. However, the success of the direct-to-DVD “Wonder Woman” animated movie, with Keri Russell and Nathan Fillion, got my hopes up again somewhat.

Megan Fox is already signed for “Fathom” and has been rumored for She-Hulk. I think the best bet for a “Wonder Woman” film is probably to go with an unknown, but whether or not Warners thinks the character herself is strong enough to carry good box office receipts is another question.

Is Wonder Woman a lame character? Well, I’ll admit, her comic books throughout history have been less consistently good than those of Superman, Batman, Spider-Man or the X-Men. But she is the best-known female superhero, and there is enough quality source material from which to develop a movie. (The Greg Rucka and George Perez runs are the most worth reading, and available in trade paperback format.)

This summer’s superhero movies — “Watchmen” and “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” — didn’t crush box office records like last summer’s “Iron Man” and “Dark Knight.” So maybe there’s not a mad rush to make a “Wonder Woman” film. Still, superhero movies have been very successful in the last decade, and Wonder Woman is one of the best-known not to receive a movie update. Unless superhero movies start to bomb on a regular basis, a Wonder Woman movie would seem to be only a matter of time.

Bandar Seri Begawan - Despite Brunei being a welfare-orientated country, the awareness of special-needs children still needs to be increased so that the public may be more understanding of their condition.

Brunei's leading health and fitness club, Fitness Zone, has launched a four-day charity sports carnival yesterday to raise funds for these children.

Having a younger brother, Fairul Azmi Hj Suhaimi, who is a down-syndrome child, Mohd Arif Fikri Hj Marzi highlighted that such children generally face challenges as they are "often misunderstood" by the public.

"Some people do talk negatively behind our backs and call him names, but I am not bothered because I know better," he said. "He is still family and we love him."

Special-needs children are "just like any other normal person", Mohd Arif said. In fact, these children may even be "more loving and caring" compared to other "so-called normal people".

'Although Fairul is only six, he tries to help around the house as much as he can such as sweeping the floor and washing the clothes," he said. "The only difference is that special children tend to be slower learners. That is all." Mohd Arif highlighted that the urgent need for families with special children is not monetary support but better facilities to help train these children.

"The biggest headache that we constantly face is trying to understand him through his gestures," he said. "I hope my brother will be able to speak one day (through proper training)." The primary school teacher also told The Brunei Times that the event is meaningful as it provides a platform for the public to discover more about special-needs children by mingling closely with them.

"Brunei may be a well-to-do country, but there are still people in the society who need our attention and help," said Wu Chun, the owner of Fitness Zone. He also commented that Brunei residents are generally compassionate and would love to help the needy, but are often unaware of the means available to do so.

"Organising such public events is therefore important to give the public an opportunity to actually contribute to help make a difference," said Wu, who is also a singer and actor. "People with such capacity should collaborate together to organise such events in the future on a consistent basis."

Participant for the Fitness Zone charity programme Keeran Janin thinks that the special children are "in good hands" as Brunei residents are usually "well taken care of". Judging from the "visible support" observed at the event, he said, Bruneians are generally quite concerned about the welfare of these children.
The event, specially organised by the Association for Children with Special Needs (Kaca) and UNICEF, was attended by Sheikh Jamaluddin Sheikh Mohammed, the Director of Tourism in Brunei who was the guest of honour. Also attending the function was Mohd Jaffari Hj Mahadi, the head of the supervision division of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and other NCB officers.

It is with great joy that I can announce that I am 13 weeks pregnant! Our much longed for third baby is due late July and we are so thrilled! It has been a very long, hard journey to get here as I have had alot of health complications in the past 3 years that have hindered our progress in getting pregnant but after 3 unsuccessful cycles of IUI, we took a break in October to consider our options and though I was told it would be very unlikely I would fall pregnant naturally, my little miracle happened and we did just that - finding out on my 39th birthday which was the best present ever! There will still be extra ultrasounds and tests required to ensure the safe arrival of our baby but in the meantime, I look forward to enjoying my pregnancy and sharing my experiences with you. I will be continuing with gigi+lulu but I am also creating a new blog - Baby, One More Time, which will be a diary of my pregnancy in my own words and I look forward to talking about my experiences with IVF/IUI, life after an abnormal pap smear and cone biopsy, the fun things that Gigi & Lulu say about my growing tummy and generally just documenting my experiences for my children to read one day. Once again, thank you for your ongoing support and I hope you enjoy my new blog as well x x x

Se trata de "This is it", una balada que habla de un amor inesperado y que da nombre al álbum que saldrá a la venta el próximo 26 de octubre, coincidiendo con el estreno, dos días después, del documental "Michael Jackson`s This Is It".

En el tema que hoy se dio a conocer al mundo también participan los hermanos de Jackson, señaló la página web oficial del músico fallecido el 25 de junio.

El single comienza con las palabras: "Así es. Aquí estoy. Soy la luz del mundo. Me siento grande", y continúa: "Enamorarme no estaba en mis planes. Nunca pensé que sería tu pájaro de amor".

Es notable el éxito y la calidad del trabajo que realiza este actor, así como también el gran atractivo físico que posee que sin duda habrá arrancado muchos suspiros entre las fans de sus telenovelas.

Police Officers are fed up with the all night noise from LosAngeles residents Paris Hilton and Doug Reinhardt and are reportedly on their last warning. Police officers have been summoned to the pair's residence on many occasions over angry charges of disturbance. Police have at once threatened Paris as reported by one furious neighbor as "a monstrosity," and Doug with "fines and arrests" if anybody at their residence breaks the law once more, according to a celebrity internet site. Residents in the neighborhood have notified the Los Angeles Police Department, the Los Angeles City Attorney and the Los Angeles City Council to the pair's all-night partying and rowing. Finally, I was able to watch Jennifer's Body starring Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried. The first reason why I want to watch this movie is because I am so curious to see if Megan Fox is not just a Real Hollywood Beauty but a talented one as well. And I really think she had both. Beauty and Talent.

I am not very impress about the story of the movie as well as the technical effects. There is really nothing special to watch about this movie. But watching how beautiful Megan Fox, is something quite entertaining. She is so lovely to watch. I think this movie is just for teenagers who are looking for something trendy horror movie.
